BBG Meeting Brighton | 22nd June – 23rd 2023
Mercure Brighton Seafront Hotel, 149 King's Road, Brighton BN1 2PP
The 2023 BBG meeting took place in Brighton on Thursday 22nd and Friday 23rd June at the Mercure Hotel in Brighton and was an excellent meeting with something for everyone.
Our two plenary speakers (Anna Kirby – Controversies in diagnosis and management of oligometastatic disease and Lesley Fallowfield – Communication – Past, present and future) on the Thursday afternoon gave outstanding talks to start the meeting. The BBG dinner was attended by more than 70 members and guests. The good food and wine was supplemented by an after dinner speech from David Dodwell delivered with his usual wry sense of humour and some exciting live entertainment from the award winning accapella band Naked Voices.
The main meeting on Friday provided a wonderful mix of plenary talks from leading experts in their field including Fiona Gilbert who provided an exciting glimpse into the future of the use of artificial Intelligence in breast imaging, Peter Schmid reviewing the remarkable progress in the use of immunotherapy in breast cancer and Stuart McIntosh who addressed the challenging topic of de-escalation of loco-regional treatments.
Abstract presentations provided a truly multidisciplinary mix of topics reflecting the unique nature and great strength of the BBG meetings. All presentations were of a very high quality and prompted lively discussion. The presentation from CarolynTaylor on breast cancer mortality in 500,000 women diagnosed with early invasive breast cancer in England illustrated just how dramatically the outcome for patients has improved over the past 30 years.
Our thanks go to the local organising team, Holly Cowlan, Melanie Flint and Lesley Fallowfield for ensuring the local arrangements and to David Dodwell and Rob Coleman for programme development and meeting oversight.
Next year’s meeting will be held in late June or July 2024 in Manchester hosted by Sacha Howell and Rob Clarke. Further information will be provide in the autumn.

If for any reason the meeting cancelled is due to unforeseen circumstances (i.e. weather) the registration fees will be subject to full payment. In the event that the meeting is postponed due to COVID the BBG would endeavour to transfer the registration to an alternative date but would not be able to reimburse. payments that were not refunded by the hotel.
